Challywood is a Kosher Pareve bakery certified by the VAAD Harabonim of Queens through Violet's Bake Shop Inc. All baking is done on premises of Violet's Bake Shop. We are Pas Yisroel and use Yoshon flour.
 The Hebrew word kosher means fit or proper as it relates to kosher dietary law. The basic laws of Kashrus (a Hebrew word referring to kosher and its application) are of Biblical origin. For thousands of years, Rabbinic scholars have interpreted these laws and applied them to contemporary situations.
Our Challah's are neither meat nor dairy (and can therefore be eaten with either), and were not manufactured on meat or dairy equipment. In the bakery, a Rabbi turns on the oven. Some words about Yoshon Flour: In Judaism, Chodosh (new grain) is a concept within the Jewish dietary regulations, based on the biblical requirement not to eat any grain of the new year (that includes products made with the new grain) prior to the annual Omer offering on the 16th day of Nisan. Grain products which are no longer affected by this law is referred to as Yoshon (old). Please note, that the online store is closed every Friday afternoon through Saturday night in observance of Shabbat. No orders will be processed during this time. The online store also closes in observance of Jewish Holidays.
